Tina Blackwell

Art Teacher

Hi I’m Tina Originally from England, I moved to Melbourne twenty years ago and have worked across the education sector ever since, specialising in visual arts and community based programs for adults, children, and people with special needs.

My artistic practice grew significantly after joining Le Studio in Mordialloc in 2016, where I developed my style and connected with a vibrant creative community. I now tutor at Art of the Soul Studio, sharing creativity, inspiration, and confidence with fellow artists. A pivotal moment in my journey was travelling through Provence with three fellow artists, creating work inspired by its light, colour, and atmosphere for our group exhibition After Provence. That influence continues to shape my paintings today.

I work primarily in acrylics, exploring colour harmony, contrast, and expressive texture. Bold palettes, movement, and tactile surfaces are central to my style. I’ve participated in group exhibitions and creative programs throughout the Kingston and Bayside districts and developed short course workshops for adults exploring new art skills.

I encourage everyone to discover the joy of painting and express the art that already lives within us.

“I’d love to share and work with you during my courses to enrich your own experiences and love of making art.”

Texture & Colour- Unleash with Acrylic

Week 1 – Colour Exploration & Texture Techniques

  • Experiment with expressive colour combinations, choosing hues based on mood rather than realism.

  • Build textured surfaces using modelling paste and a palette knife, exploring both subtle and bold marks.

  • Use a water spray lift-off technique to remove areas of wet paint, creating soft, organic transitions and unexpected effects.

  • Focus on non-naturalistic colour choices to discover how emotion can shape a visual atmosphere.

Weeks 2 & 3 – Landscape on Canvas

  • Develop a landscape painting inspired by your chosen Week 1 colour palette.

  • Apply modelling paste directly onto the finished canvas to sculpt depth, movement, and tactile interest.

  • Continue using the water spray lift-off method to reveal layers, soften edges, and introduce natural variation within the scene.

  • Prioritise mood, texture, and expressive mark-making over strict realism, allowing the landscape to emerge through feeling rather than accuracy.
